Stephen Holt Gets Kill Shakespeare Update at TIFF

During the Toronto International Film Festival last month I sat down with uber-enthusiastic New York-based journalist Stephen Holt (one of the biggest fans of ours).  In one of our interviews Stephen wanted a complete update on the project, which I give to him here:As well, I have become a sort-of Oscar expert over the last few years and I did a number of interviews with Stephen and some other Oscar experts at TIFF.  Here are a couple of the spots:Thanks again to Stephen for allowing me to sit in and providing more coverage for us! As always, you can check out his blog, The Oscar Messenger, here.

A little product placement for our little book

San Diego Comic-Con becomes a bigger and bigger deal for the "mainstream" media all the time.Earlier this week CTV did a story on San Diego and the record crowds that gathered to attend that Geek-a-palooza. But part of the story focused on an event that's we'll be attending this fall - the Halifax Comic Con!Jen Lambe, who heads up the organizing committee for HalCon, was interviewed by CTV to comment on the rise of Geek culture. And Jen, a big fan of our work, got them to shoot the lead-in to the interview with her reading our book.It made enough of an impression that my fiancee's mother e-mailed us to say she had seen it -- and right now she's living in Dryden, Ontario which is a couple of hours north of Thunder Bay (so it looks like we're going regional, baby!)A big thanks to Jen for giving us another great plug on National T.V.! It means a lot to us that our fans support the book the way you do. So thanks to all of you.Click on the link below to see the lovely Ms. Lambe!CTV Live at 5

ANDY B. SET FREE

Yep, Andy B. escaped the chains of the drawing desk to do some media promo work. The always quote worthy Andy B. carries a big part of the Kill Shakespeare crew's latest podcast appearance.Andy and Conor chatted with the "All Your Basecast" folks about the series, the team's upcoming visit to London AND Andy's love of the city.Of course it wouldn't be a Belanger interview if he didn't stir it up a little -- so if you write or draw a "touchy-feely" indie comic.... you might want to hide. So, without further ado, click here to hear Andy B. let loose on the lovely Vanessa!(And for those of you who don't get the reference in the title of the Podcast, enjoy!)

SEE THE VICTORY!

Its finally up!You can now watch Conor and Anthony's  award winning Pitch This! presentation. This is what won us the big, fake, novelty cheque! Also, there are several other great pitches on the video, especially The Fringe, Brobots and 50 Proof (which I found really funny, but maybe I was in the minority). So click here to watch the whole thing. Or jump straight ahead to the 32 minute mark to see us do our stuff (use the full screen version, because the pop-up window isn't cropped too well). They also had to edit out a bit where our video didn't run (which is too bad because we had a couple of good awkward one-liners as we waited in growing horror).Anyway tell us what you think, and tell us which PITCH you would have voted for -- aside from us of course...

Clips from The Lang & O'Leary Exchange

Thanks to everyone who reached out to us since our appearance last night on The Lang & O'Leary Exchange.  Not only did my family and friends check out the program but I also heard from long-lost acquaintances - it's great that so many people took the time to reach out to us!

I'm trying to see if I can get a copy of the video directly but in the meantime you should (I haven't verified this yet...) be able to check out the video here (our segment starts at around the 47:00 marker).  Hopefully we'll be able to find the code to imbed it directly onto our site as well.

An EPIC, EPIC of KILL SHAKESPEAREAN EPICNESS - in four parts (To borrow from Scott Pilgrim) .

The ENTIRE Kill Shakespeare team (including that 'wascally wabbit' Andy) take part in a mammoth interview with Joe Wilcox at Oddly Together.Joe is a great journalist with year's of experience - it may be the first time we've been questioned by a guy who also cover's Microsoft's earnings. There are four parts to the awesomeness -- each one bite-sized and tasty.

Act 1 -- Enjoy as Andy gets to be the pitchman for the first time in a live interview. Thrill to how he says the series is about Shakespeare's characters playing with themselves. Gasp as Anthony and Conor reveal themselves to be Bert and Ernie on acid (those aren't two pillows....)Act II -- Anthony gets us on track and explains what the heck this series is actually about. And he explains how Kimberly Cox may still be trying to kill us.Anthony, pondering the questions Joe asked.Act III - This was a real, real treat -- a WORLD-EXCLUSIVE sneak preview of art for issues #5, 6 and beyond. If you are a Kill Shakespeare devotee (as we know you are) you wanna check this clip out for sure!Act IV - We get philosophical here and ask a big question for Bardolators: Was Hamlet a suicide-case? Did he actually LET himself be killed in the play? And does that make him one big fat coward???All told we had a great time chatting with Joe, and we really hope you enjoy the interviews as much as we did making them!

Proof that we have "Ambition" (we told ya')

The Kill Shakespeare boys were honoured to be part of a campaign run by IMPACT and the Canadian Youth Business Foundation called "I am My Ambition". It's designed to help young entrepreneurs (lie us!) inspire other Canadians to take a risk and start their own business.Unfortunately for us the audio on Anthony's mic wasn't working well so the video is short on his very excellent observations, but still you get to see how fast Conor talks in meetings -- Woah! Slow down Speed Racer!Click here to see the video and here to check out this excellent organization that might be able to help you with your first (or next) business.

SDCC Day 3: An impromptu video improv...

On Friday evening at Comic-Con we dined with John Hogan and Carol Fitzgerald of BookReporter.com and GraphicNovelReporter.com... The evening started out really cool as we ate at a family Italian restaurant by the name of Doppa De something (Conor made fun of the fact that all Italian sounds like that).  We dined with great people like Gina Gagliano (sp?) at First Second Publishing, teacher Bill McGrath, and librarian Eva Volin.Eva dragged us away from our dessert that evening to do a quick video hit - which has just showed up on YouTube.  You can watch the video here. And because we had done so many interviews that day, those that know us will see that Conor and I switched roles for this interview (Conor's idea, I must admit)... It made sure that we didn't answer in the same media bites we normally would...

Kill Shakespeare in One Minute!

This has definitely made my week!A would web guru by the name of Shea at sheakoshan.net has put together a one-minute video of the first issue of Kill Shakespeare #1.  It's absolutely fantastic!  I love it - a nice combo of summary, synopsis and humour (as well as a Shakespeare quote or two).I hadn't heard of her website but upon taking a look through it think that she's got a good feel for story and also a good sense of humour.  You can check out the video below, or the web page directly by clicking on the logo.

Kill Shakespeare on EP Daily (G4TV)

We did an interview with EP Daily (Electric Playground) on G4 TV that aired last week (Wed, Apr 28th) here in Canada and the U.S.  We had a little difficulty embedding the file on our site but thanks to the web wizardry of our tech consultant Michael Ball we've finally been able to post it.We apologize for the rocky beginning of the clip - for some reason it cuts right into the interview and you miss the snazzy intro.  That aside, it's a pretty cool clip and we really enjoyed chatting and goofing around with Jose (the host) and Geoff (the producer).More importantly, they taught us a very important lesson - that anytime you stick a mic in front of anyone they will immediately think that they are being interviewed, even if the mic isn't plugged in or there's no camera in sight.  We tried this a few times and it worked!...

All Things Fangirl Interview!

While at the IDW booth at WonderCon last Sunday we were accosted by some females looking to kill Shakespeare... They asked us impromptu questions about the series and recorded the interview on their exception Flip camera.  The quality is pretty good... and so now we're looking to purchase one for ourselves.

The interview was a lot of fun, as you can see...Check out their site by clicking on their logo - it's a great site full of really great analysis of pop culture.  I'm going to make sure that I visit their site regularly!

Conor at the Silver Snail

Last November we took a stroll by the Silver Snail in downtown Toronto, Canada, to film a clip for our website.  In this clip Conor talks about his love of comic books and the influences behind the Kill Shakespeare series.Conor used to work at the Silver Snail a number of years ago and it was during that time that we really began to realize how many great stories are being told in comics.  That triggered the idea of putting Kill Shakespeare together as a comic book series... and here are, a few weeks away from the release of the first issue!
